What is in your house?
- Posted by Holy Ghost
“Son of man, thou dwellest in the midst of a rebellious house, which have eyes to see, and see not; they have ears to hear, and hear not: for they are a rebellious house.” Ezekiel 12:2
If you start to pay attention, you will notice how often the Bible speaks of houses. Houses that are leprous (Leviticus 14:34), houses that are cursed (Job 5:3), earthly houses and eternal houses (2 Corinthians 5:1-2), houses that cannot be shaken, or that fall (Luke 6:48- 49), and rebellious houses, as in this text from Ezekiel. I have often written that house in the Bible refers to our mind; you can use the search function on this website if you need further explanation. This text from Ezekiel shows that a rebellious ‘house’ causes us to have eyes to see, but see not, and ears to hear, but hear not. Yeshua speaks about these rebellious ‘houses’ when He explains to His disciples in Matthew 13 that He speaks in parables “ because they seeing see not; and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand.”
We do not like to be called rebellious. But what exactly does rebellion mean in the Bible? Proverbs 17:11 says that “an evil man seeketh only rebellion”. The Flood was caused by the “imagination of the thoughts” of the heart of man being “evil continually”. And if you think man has changed since then, realize that Matthew 24 says it is no better now than in the days of Noah. So, rebellion is in our mind and heart. It causes us to “take counsel” but not of Him and thus “add sin to sin” (Isaiah 30:1). If we take counsel of man, instead of Him, we add thought to thought that is not His. Rebellion is our mind, our own wisdom of man. And that is the wisdom of the world, which is foolishness with God (1 Corinthians 3:18-19). Rebellion is every thought we think we know better than He does. Like the first man in the Garden, that started the Fall…
But the good news is that Yeshua wants to cleanse our ‘house’! That is what He made clear when He cleansed the temple – the house of His Father.
“And Jesus went into the temple of God, and cast out all them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them that sold doves, And said unto them, It is written, My house shall be called the house of prayer; but ye have made it a den of thieves.” Matthew 21:12-13
His house was meant to be a house of prayer, our mind (house) is meant to hear Him. When Paul calls us to “pray without ceasing” (1 Thessalonians 5:17), he does not mean that we have to sit with our eyes closed and hands folded (or up) all day long. He means that we should be continuously connected to Him through prayer so that we hear His voice instead of the voice of our own thoughts or thoughts from other people. But to what extent have we made our ‘house’ a den of thieves?
The text continues:
“And the blind and the lame came to him in the temple; and he healed them.” Matthew 21:14
If we let Him cleanse our mind with His truth, He heals our mind. His truth makes free (John 8:30-32). And that means that we are no longer blind, but then we will see, and hear. Then our ‘house’ is a house of prayer, where we can hear Him:
“Speak, LORD; for thy servant hearet.” 1 Samuel 3:9
“This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him.” Matthew 17:5
What is in your house? Let your ‘house’ be cleansed by Him, so that you will hear and see Him more and more.
