“Whose end is destruction (…) who mind earthly things. (…) Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.” Philippians 3:18, 4:8
In Ephesians 4, Paul points out the need to be renewed in the spirit of our mind. In his letter to the Philippians, he warns against thinking earthly things and he also writes what things we should think on. On what things do you think? What thoughts do you allow to enter your mind? What is the outcome if you put your thoughts along Paul’s checklist? Maybe they are true, but are they lovely? Maybe they are just, but are they praise? Thus: are they true, and honest, and just, and pure, and lovely, and of good report, and of virtue, and praise? Realize that earthly thoughts are destruction. And then, think about what you would like to think on.
